The Natalobatrachus bonebergiwas residing in the mid to upper reachesof the valley, living in the undergrowth overhanging small water bodies. The Kloof Frog is an endangered species and the only species in its genus, with its range stretching from the eastern coastal areas of the Eastern Cape to southern Zululand. Together with KZN Wildlife it was decided the best way to save the frog was to preserve its habitation so the foot- print of the waste storage facility was reduced and limited to the lower reaches of the valley. Other possible Kloof Frog habitats in the area have been identified and will be declared conservancies
